City

Thessaloniki (named after Alexander the Great’s sister) is 2400 years old. It is the 2nd biggest city of Greece with more than 1 million inhabitants. A number of tourist attractions are within easy reach of Thessaloniki: These include Mount Olympus (70 km from Thessaloniki), Vergina (at a driving distance of 40 minutes) and the UNESCO world heritage Mount Athos with 20 monasteries (at a ~2h driving distance, can only be visited  by men).

Thessaloniki is directly connected to many European cities. Aegean/Olympic airlines is member of Star Alliance. Easyjet, Ryanair, Wizz also operate at Thessaloniki. The flight from Athens to Thessaloniki takes only 45 minutes.

A single room will cost <100 euros (on a BB basis). There is a plethora of 3* hotels at Thessaloniki with better prices.
